Why acrylic yellows
UV light breaks down the polymer chains in untreated acrylic, causing chromophores (color-carrying molecules) to form. The result: white acrylic slowly turns cream/yellow starting from window-facing surfaces.
How anti-yellowing acrylic is engineered
UV-inhibitor molecules are chemically bonded into the acrylic film during manufacture. These absorb UV photons before they can damage the polymer chain — like sunscreen for the laminate.
